Client had a interesting project.  They had outgrown their Astaro 220 UTM and also wanted to added redundancy at their gateway to elevate a Single Point of Failure.

We upgraded them to the Sophos/Astaro 320 model to accommodate their growth.    To take care of the redundancy we ordered two unites and set them up in High Availability mode.

Solution is deployed into production and went of without a hitch.  Was done after hours so it would not impact their business.

Ran into some issues with Outlook for Mac.  Everyone that has been supporting Outlook their entire careers is very familiar with PST and OST files and locating recovering and all other things Outlook related.

Well I had a cline that lost their data on a Outlook for Mac and I found myself in new waters.

In my specific example the client had their Mac Outlook setup to receive work email from POP account as well as a personal Hotmail account setup thru Outlook.  They converted their work email to Exchange and no longer needed the POP so they simply deleted the account.  Well to their surprise that caused they’re “On my Computer” folder to go away and they had stored a lot of business critical emails in that location.

Long story short and a lot of reading and trial and error this is how I was able to recover their data. (Basically it was still there just not visible)

You can try exporting all your ‘missing’ emails to an OLM. Basically, they are not missing. They are still there, but corrupt and invisible.

With the corrupt identity open, 
1. Go to File
2. Select Export
3. Export everything to an OLM file
4. Wait.
5. Wait some more, corrupt items can take some time…
6. Once the OLM file is complete, quit Outlook 2011
7. Create a new identity by…
8. Hold down the option key and launch Outlook 2011
9. The Microsoft Database Utility should open. If it doesn’t, close outlook and try again
10. Create a new identity with the ‘+’ button
11. Set it as default with the ‘Cog/Gear’ next to the ‘-’ button
12. Launch Outlook 2011
13. Go to File
14. Select Import
15. Import the OLM
16. Grab some Eggnog
17. Drink Eggnog
18. The folder/emails should appear under the ‘On My Computer’ Section in an ‘Archive”
19. If you don’t see the ‘On My Computer’ section, you may have it hidden in the General options (File – Preferences – General – Hide On My Computer)
